Amelia County Sheriff Walker Retirement Celebration

Join us in honoring Amelia County Sheriff Ricky Walker for the many years of serving our community. He is retiring effective January 1st, 2027, ending a 47 year career in public service. He has served as Amelia County Sheriff since January 2008 after retiring as a Master Virginia State Trooper in 2007.

He began his career as a Virginia State Trooper in December 1978. After serving on his initial assignment for a brief period he was assigned to Amelia County in 1984. He served the citizens of Amelia, Powhatan and Chesterfield. Additional duties included high level security details for dignitaries, the Vice President, numerous merchant ships and navel aircraft carriers. Other duties included a K-9 handler trained in explosive and weapon detection, investigations and helped to manage the Inspection Program for the Virginia State Police. In January 2008 he was elected as the Amelia County Sheriff.

Sheriff Walker recently commented, "This announcement comes with a heavy heart and mixed feelings; however, I am announcing my official retirement as Sheriff of Amelia County effective January 1, 2027. This will conclude a 47-year service to the Commonwealth of Virginia, to which 19 years of serving Amelia County as your Sheriff. It has truly been an honor to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Virginia State Trooper and a distinguished honor as Sheriff of Amelia. Much gratitude to you, the citizens, for entrusting me and my leadership in providing public safety to all that travel through, live and work in Amelia.

My tenure as Sheriff has allowed me to build a strong relationship with the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, Fire and EMS services as well as partnering with such a wonderful community and many businesses that has led to friendships that will last a lifetime."
