The Amelia County Animal Shelter and Animal Control Office has two full-time and one part-time employee. Planning and Zoning
The Planning and Zoning Department provides technical support to the Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, and related subcommittees of each. Staff is responsible for processing and reviewing rezonings, conditional use permits, special exceptions, variances, site plans, and subdivisions. The James L. Hamner Public Library attained its charter in 1973. Construction of the current building began in 1999 and the library opened to the public in July 2000. The library, located in Amelia Court House, is named after Dr. James Loving Hamner, a deceased physician in Amelia County.
